Point for the MSM

I've criticized the MSM in the past for their blatent anti-Iraq coverage. It's only fair that I praise them for a solid, uplifting story. Army Sergeant Darrell Green was interviewed by ABC for a story about the Baghdad bombing of a hotel that killed and injured some journalists. Turns out that the Sergeant Green is directly responsible for keeping the cement truck loaded with explosives from crashing into the hotel--which would have caused far greater damage. Green saw the truck coming, engaged the driver with his autmoatic weapon from 100 yards away, and succeeded in stopping the truck. The terrorist detonated before he reached the building.

Yeah! Now that's the freakin' awesome news story I've been waiting for! TV movie, anyone?

UPDATE: Powerline's military correspondent in Baghdad reports about the foiled cement truck attack:

As a result of the blast, there was significant damage, but far less than there would have been had the blast occurred at the base of the hotel, which could have possibly collapsed the structure. So the difference between the two starkly different outcomes came down to one humble family man from Orlando, Florida who engaged the cement truck.

Since a common enemy tactic is to follow a barrier breaching blast with another blast aimed at the actual target, the first blast probably caused SGT Green to know that another blast could be coming at any moment. But rather than run for cover, he exposed himself to the effect from a second blast he must have known was probably coming, thereby putting himself at risk to defend the hotel and the journalists staying there.

Courageous men like SGT Green deserve all the honor we can afford them.
