My, how the headlines change

"Navy Surgeons Set New Records in Saving Wounded"

~ a headline in the November 22, 1943, edition of Life magazine, under the catagory "Miracles of the Battlefront."

This is the type of story we'll never see in the MSM's reporting today on Iraq or Afghanistan. Some exerpts:

"An amazing example of the fine medical care given to our sailors and marines is shown by this story."

"Navy surgeons are saving lives with all the 'wonder discoveries' of modern medicine..."

"Late figures swho that all of Navy and Marine personnel wounded since the start of the war, only 2.6 per cent have died. And the Army's record is comparably remarkable. Never before has such a high percentage of lives been saved in a war."
