Kerry's latest distortion (will this guy ever go away?)
AP (Hat tip to TKS):
Here's a bumper sticker for 2008 - "IQ below 70? Vote Democrat"
UPDATE: James Taranto reveals the origin of the "vote on Wednesday" hoax.
Many would-be voters in last year's presidential election were denied access to the polls through trickery and intimidation, former Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry told the Massachusetts League of Women Voters on Sunday. Kerry cited examples of how people were duped into not voting. "Leaflets are handed out saying Democrats vote on Wednesday, Republicans vote on Tuesday. People are told in telephone calls that if you've ever had a parking ticket, you're not allowed to vote," he said.First off, I highly doubt any significant number of people actually fit this description. Secondly, anybody who falls for these tricks shouldn't be voting anyway. How'd they even manage to get registered? And apparently John Kerry thinks all these tricked voters would have voted Democrat...

Don't be snide. Kerry is telling the truth, and this kind of misinformation took place on a much larger scale than the GOP is willing to admit.
Someone who gets fooled by this kind of thing isn't 'stupid'; they're either lower-income and have less access to information, or are voting for the first time - a fairly significant part of the Democratic base.
And this doesn't even include the hundreds of thousands of college students (including myself) who applied for absentee ballots a month in advance and didn''t get them until it was too late.
But i know some people in the GOP want to re-introduce poll taxes and literary tests, so maybe my arguments are wasted.
Oh c'mon, Loyal... These tricks are so ridiculously false, the only people who fall for them are idiots or just too lazy to find out the truth.
If one don't know the basic rules about voting, one shouldn't vote. Of course, anyone who tries these tricks should be prosecuted--I don't care whose side they're on.
What does absentee balloting have to do with "trickery and intimidation" in this story?
These mass voter fraud/intimidation conspiracy theories are getting old.
A literary test, huh? Not a bad idea? Seriously, though--why not have some sort of minimal hoop for a voter to jump through to demonstrate his ability and at least basic knowledge of the issues?
I didn't think you'd actually go for the 'literacy test' thing - that's what they used to have in the south to keep blacks froms voting. I guess I learned something.
Voting is a basic right, and no one - no matter how poor, uneducated, or illiterate, should be denied to.
As for 'knowledge' of the issues, I might point out that the less you know about issues across the board, the more likely you are to vote Republican, so maybe that's not a terrible plan.
And now we don't have the problem of keeping blacks from voting... A literacy test is a good idea and doesn't necessarily have to be tainted by history (ha! kinda like communism!--well, kind of. that's a different subject...**)
48 states prohibit prison inmates from voting (at least while in prison; I'm not sure about afterwards). People do things that negate their rights--it happens all the time. It could be said that a requirement to vote is that you are not in prison... If an average person is incapable of even basic literacy, I think he should forfeit his right to vote. In addition, voting is more than a right; it's a civic responsibility. If you're stupid enough to never learn to read, I believe you forfeit your ability to fulfill that responsibility.***
Loyal, that last comment is a low blow cheap shot and you know it, but I'll let it go since I know you don't really mean it.... :) But I'll comment on it anyways. I don't care who the default vote for stupid people is; a) I don't want them voting, and b) I want everyone to be educated regardless of how any election turns out.
**let's just ignore the communism thing and leave that for another time...
**just for the record, mentally handicapped folks definitely aren't included in this, and perhaps people with other problems like ADD or dislexia, etc.
Kerry has sunk so low with this latest ploy that my first thought this morning was "What an unbelievable douchebag!" This spurred me to some serious scientific research. I had to find out: is John Kerry the biggest douchebag in the world?
Google finds 13,000,000 hits for a search on John Kerry. This gives us our baseline Kerry identification level. Then, by searching John Kerry douchebag, we find how many mentions associate John Kerry with a douchebag. The result is 17,500. By dividing this number by the 13 million baseline Kerry identification level and multiplying by 1000, we arrive at the Douchebag Identification Per Thousand(TM) quotient (DBIPT). Kerry's DBIPT score is 1.35, a truly phenomenal rating.
For comparison, George W. Bush's DBIPT score is just 0.56. No other politician has been found with a douchebag identification score anywhere near Kerry's. Seeking other douchebags outside of the world of politics, I tried to find scores as high as Kerry's. I thought Howard Stern might have a high rating, not just because some people think he is a douchebag, but because Stern and his fans use the term "douchebag" so often in describing others. Stern's DBIPT score is, however, a surprisingly low 0.36. We have yet to find anyone in any field with a douchebag identification quotient as high as John Kerry's. We can therefore declare, until we find contradicting evidence, that John Kerry is the biggest douchebag in the world.

Actually democrats have a 3 point higher average IQ than republicans and are more likely to have a higher level of education.
When you think about it, it really does make sense, with most republicans believing in mysticism and magic and most democrats believing in science.
