Freedom: the soil of human prosperity and happiness.

One thing that the left prides itself on is its compassion for the poor and downtrodden. The stereotype of the democrats is that they support the homeless, the helpless, people of the third world, the proletariat, human rights, and the environment. The conservative stereotype, on the other hand, is pro-big business, pro-wealthy, pro-bourgeoisie, and anti-environment. Neither one is true.

I found a particularly interesting irony in the aftermath of the tsunami. The liberals claim we Americans are being stingy in the relief effort, that Republicans don't care enough about these people, but the Democrats do. Yet while these democrats support relief efforts to improve the lives of disaster victims, they vigorously oppose any vision to bring the most basic freedoms to these cultures. They would dole out clean water and fresh food, but deny people the soil of true human prosperity and happiness--freedom through democracy.

Of course conservatives want to help the tsunami victims! Of course we don't want the Iraqis to suffer the terrorism of the insurgents! But we'd much rather give them the greater gift of FREEDOM. This is one of God's greatest gifts to man--and He gave it to ALL men, western or non-western, black or white, Muslim or Christian, liberal or conservative. Democracy is not good because it sprung from western culture; western culture is good because it has democracy.
That liberals seek to deny God's most basic gift to those in our world who need it most sickens me.

Liberals are not the party of the downtrodden. Liberals are not the party of the underdog. Liberals seek to silence conservatives. Conservatives fight for the right of liberals to seek to silence conservatives.

I must ask a question of the newly-free Iraqi people: "What will you do without freedom? Will you fight?" They have answered. And their answer is a resounding YES!

A major problem that many Americans face, both liberals and conservatives, is equating democracy with freedom. As you should learn in any basic political theory class, democracy is not the answer to everyone's problems. Even in America, the "freedom" of democracy is leading to oppression for conservatives like yourself. Almost all of your entries center around the problems in media, liberals, and the immoral culture. And it is not getting better. Doesn't that lead you to question whether bringing democracy, and along with it the problems western culture, to the Middle East is really the best option? I will concede that the democracy of the U.S. could be the best form of government currently in place, but should we perhaps put our minds to creating something better rather than complaining about what isn't working?
I can see that you are a Christian who takes a strong stand for his values, and to me it sounds similar to heresy to hear you speak of freedom in democracy at the same value as freedom through the grace of Christ. When Jesus came to earth, people were expecting a politcal leader to finally overthrow Rome and bring political justice. But what did he do? He paid His taxes, obeyed Roman laws, and cared for the sick, the poor, the widowed (and my I add you criticized liberals for doing just that). Compare this post to the actions of Jesus and see what he thought more important.
A thought to ponder: What is your definition of freedom?
Now take that definition and place it in the title of this post--is it really the soil of human prosperity and happiness? Is that kind of freedom truly neccessary to find happiness? Or joy?
