The government is developing a new weapon that could potentially eliminate collateral damage. It's sounds like it was cut-and-pasted right out of a sci-fi film, but this time it's real: a laser that "could literally obliterate enemy ground targets with a laser beam."

The laser could have tremendous repercussions on the battlefield, particularly in urban warfare in such countries as Afghanistan and Iraq. "It's the kind of tool that could bring about victory within minutes," an official said.

And get this. The sucker's got an expected range of 10 miles. That's right, 10 miles.
