Don't question my patriotism...

...but I have complete freedom to question yours! So whines the Democratic Party in Minnesota. Some Iraq veterans have appeared in some local television commercials discussing the good things happening in Iraq, and the Dems are calling them un-American. Nick Coleman, the Mineapolis Star-Tribune's star liberal columnist--and a total asshat (thanks, Temujin)--has joined in the attack on our soldiers with two columns so far. I've interacted with this nutbag before.

Powerline is covering this story very solidly:
Listen to Col. Stephenson and judge for yourself
The Complete Democrat Disgrace
Shut up, they explained

Let me get this straight. It's OK for Democrats to oppose the war and scream bloody murder if somebody questions their patriotism, yet they feel no qualms about calling not just war supporters, but Iraq veterans, unpatriotic for their support of it? It's OK for families of soldiers to speak out against the war (Cindy Sheehan), but not for families who support it?

I'm glad I'm not involved with a party that bases its political hopes on the failure of democracy abroad and the inability of an opposition administration to protect Americans from terrorists.

Sadly, this asshat's views are more the rule rather than the exception with the Democrtic Party. It's no londer a fringe group that thinks this way.

Sad, really.

Stephenson is a family friend actually.

While I disagree with the war, the ad makes some fair points. Moreover, while I would disagree with some of the messages, questioning the patriotism of the soldiers and their families is ludicrous.

Nick Coleman used to write for The Pioneer Press--the decent paper from St. Paul which my family gets. Now he writes for the embarassing Red Tribune. I don't miss him in the least.

This administration is completely criminal, Seth. The fact that they are using depleted uranium munitions on the battlefield, indiscriminately affecting civilian and soldier alike, is unforgivable. And for those brave soldiers seeking help - don't go to the VA. Why do you think the VA's top administrator quit? Because this is a huge scandal and why many vets have turned against the war and this administration. This "war" is an abject disaster!
