"Academic Bill of Rights" is unnecessary

Florida Republicans are sponsoring a bill that would enable college students to sue professors and/or universities for not representing their views. Aimed to "stamp out 'leftist totalitarianism' by 'dictator professors,'" this bill will do more damage than good. There's no denying the monopoly of liberalism within college faculty, and it's true that some professors are on a mission to destroy Christians' faith, but this bill opens up the floodgates for some ridiculous claims. For example:
...suits could be filed by students who don’t believe astronauts landed on the moon, who believe teaching birth control is a sin or even by Shands medical students who refuse to perform blood transfusions and believe prayer is the only way to heal the body...

“This is a horrible step,” [Democratic Rep. Dan Gelber] said. “Universities will have to hire lawyers so our curricula can be decided by judges in courtrooms. Professors might have to pay court costs — even if they win — from their own pockets. This is not an innocent piece of legislation.”
I agree. Let the marketplace drive colleges and professors to regulate their behavior. If every incoming freshman at Princeton has to cross paths with the rationalized and morally reprehensible teachings of "ethicist" Peter Singer, and you don't like it, tell people about it! Educate folks on what they're paying for--lectures by a man who promotes bestiality, infanticide, and euthanasia. If you don't want your kid subjected to an unfair presentation of Creationism and Evolution, don't take the class or don't attend the school. But don't pass laws to regulate the guy. A college is not a place for censorship. Let the market punish a whacko professor. (Hat tip to TKS)
