Through my uncle's GOP eyes

Published in the Dallas Morning News today:

Through my GOP eyes

As a Republican who supports the Bush administration, I refuse to gloat over the results of this election.

I would simply ask my Democratic friends to re-examine the direction the leadership of their party has taken. In their panicked and maniacal obsession for power, they betrayed the rank-and-file members of their party.

It is now proven that the American people are resolutely turned off by the bitterness, the hate, the pessimism and the outright prevarication spewed forth by the current leadership in the Democratic Party. They abandoned any pretense of patriotism and seeking the best interest of the American people as a whole.

John Kerry lost because he has no core. In the final analysis, the only clues we had about him centered on his propensity to attack and denigrate American values.

It is now time for the Democrats to clear the wreckage of their party and return to the ideals and values that can bring about an honest and healthy debate.

When that happens, at the very least, they will keep the Republicans accountable and perhaps have a real chance at political leadership again.
