***NEWS FLASH*** "Foxgate"
Fox News' political correspondent Carl Cameron apparently wrote up a parody of John Kerry, using fake quotes. The comments attributed to Kerry included: "Didn't my nails and cuticles look great?" "What a good debate!" "Women should like me! I do manicures." "I'm metrosexual-- he's a cowboy." Somehow the parody ended up on Fox's website.
Brit Hume, the anchor of Fox News, admitted the network's mistake, yet still defended Cameron. "I was absolutely convinced at the time that this story was--to quote George Tenet--a 'slam dunk.' However, recent criticism by bitter, angry partisan operatives in the blogosphere have led me to doubt the authenticity of the story. We made a mistake in posting these comments on our website, and an independent investigation is under way concerning this issue. All that being said, I still maintain that the spirit behind the quotes attributed to John Kerry is
accurate."
In other news, an anonymous high-ranking Fox News employee gave the AP a page torn out of Brit Hume's daily planner. On it was scheduled a 2 pm meeting with Dan Rather for a "denial of my lack of journalistic integrity" therapy session.
