Isn't America Great?

I just got back from doing something I've never done--I played baseball with a bunch of Mexicans I didn't know. Well, I knew one guy. Josh and I work with Jose, and he invited us to play with him and a bunch of other guys on Sunday. We drove down into Garland (TX) and met up with Jose so we could follow him to the park. It was just this run-down field with a chain link backstop twisted up, but it worked. After warming up for a while, we got into three teams: while one team was at bat, the other two were in the field, and we all rotated in. It was so much fun! Thankfully they all spoke English--I was worried beforehand that we'd get there and have to have Jose translate everything for us! I can force out a little Espanol when I have to, but I'm pretty rusty. Anyways, we just hung out all evening, runnin' the bases over and over. And over. I think my team got 36 runs. It's been so long since I'd played baseball, and there I was: me, Josh and a bunch of mexicans having a blast belting a little ball out into the atmosphere. Where else can you just meet up with strangers and play baseball? Where else are baseball diamonds provided for community use? Where else can people of radically different cultures mix and find something in common? I LOVE THIS COUNTRY!!!!!! God Bless America.
